I lost my Israeli
ID card sometime recently, and since I need it to withdraw any large cash sums
from the bank, I really needed to get a new one. My last one was not so old; I
had recently gotten a new one, fearing that I might have trouble sometimes
proving my identity, due to the change in my appearance due to weight loss, (The old ID card had a photo from the year of
one of my heaviest weights.)
However, much to my
displeasure, since Ricki is no longer alive, and no longer a
"citizen", her name does not appear on my "offspring" page
of the ID. Now if I was running things, I would have her listed, with
an addendum that she has died.
But is isn't like
that.
They simply erased
her from my ID, as if she had never existed at all. Like even less than
a whiff of perfume. What a terrible thing to do on what would have been her 18th
birthday. Color me sad…..

that is so sad. i think there was an attempt to pass a law that would leave kids in the ID card. but it seems it never was passed.
Unfortunately this is something you'll be dealing with for the rest of your life, the "how many children do you have?" question -- after 20 years, I *still* can't get it right! If I include SD in the answer, then ppl get hung up on "where's the other kid & why don't I see him or where are you hiding him???" --if I don't include him things get sticky when ppl do the math & things don't add up & if I *do* include him but explain that he passed away, they get hung up on that with a million questions & totally loose track of what they should be focusing on (eg. anesthesiologist about to put me under for procudure... "count backwards... oh wait -- how old was he????") (honest -- that was only last month LOL). Face it --you just can't win! (Pass the chocolate!)

Dear Rickismom,
You don't know me, but there is someone in my life who struggles with an intellectual disability (not Downs) and weight issues.l I have drawn inspiration from both you and Ricki for the past five years. I'm sorry for your loss but grateful for her life.
Happy Ricki's birthday,
A fellow olah
Our son's name is still there but with z"l after it. They gave us a choice.
I went a week later and they printed a new "children" section with Ricki's name and z"l (deceased). I suggested to the lady that in the future they ASK people what they prefer, rather than choosing on their own not to include....
BTW, anonymous, TTHHAANNKKSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
